On February 17, 2025, a workshop titled Supporting Democratic Governance in Uzbekistan: Enhancing the Capacity of Non-Governmental Organizations in the Field of Human Rights was held in Tashkent at the initiative of the Representative Office of the Association of Central Asia.
The event focused on key issues such as human rights protection, strengthening civil society, and promoting democratic governance. The workshop was moderated by the Director of the Representative Office, Gulnoz Mamarasulova, who outlined the main objectives of the discussion in the opening session.
The workshop featured contributions from notable speakers, including Pulat Ahunov (Association Central Asia, online), Helen Brodrick (British Embassy), representatives of the Human Rights Ombudsman, Abdurakhmon Tashanov (Ezgulik Society), Azamjon Formonov (Legal Support Public Association), blogger Akida Mohirova, and other guests. The discussions centered on the role of NGOs in human rights protection, existing challenges, and potential solutions.
Additionally, representatives from 14 non-governmental organizations (NGOs) from various regions of Uzbekistan, including Karakalpakstan, shared their experiences, pressing issues, and proposed solutions related to human rights in their local communities.
Key topics addressed during the discussions included:
- Major human rights challenges in different regions;
- Best practices and successful initiatives;
- Proposals for strengthening NGO collaboration.
At the conclusion of the workshop, participants discussed key conclusions regarding the challenges in human rights protection and strategies for addressing them. Future cooperation plans were also developed. Lively discussions were held on capacity-building strategies for civil society and NGOs, legal frameworks, and strengthening human rights protections.
The event provided an important platform for NGOs and human rights activists to exchange experiences and establish future collaborations.
