Two-Day Training on Local Issues and Advocacy Held in Tashkent

Tashkent, Uzbekistan — 22 November 2025.

A two-day training program titled “From Local Problems to Advocacy Solutions” was successfully conducted in Tashkent, bringing together representatives of non-governmental organizations and civil society from across the country. The event was organized by the Representative Office of the Association of Central Asia in Uzbekistan in partnership with the British Embassy in Tashkent, and implemented in close collaboration with the national project partner — the Office of the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Oliy Majlis (Ombudsperson).

The training aimed to strengthen the capacity of civil society actors to identify local social challenges, analyze their root causes, and develop practical advocacy strategies. Participants engaged in intensive sessions focused on human rights, gender equality, inclusion, community engagement, and effective communication with stakeholders.

The opening session featured remarks from Ombudsperson Feruza Eshmatova, British Embassy representative Helen Brodrick, and Head of the Representative Office of the Association of Central Asia, Gulnoz Mamarasulova. Speakers emphasized the importance of constructive cooperation between state institutions and civil society, reaffirming the value of open dialogue and support for local initiatives. It was also highlighted that Ms. Mamarasulova serves as an Associate Professor and researcher at the Alisher Navo’i Tashkent State University of Uzbek Language and Literature.

Students from the Alisher Navo’i Tashkent State University of Uzbek Language and Literature also actively participated in the training, sharing their perspectives in discussions on gender equality, human rights, and inclusivity. The training noted the university’s placement among the world’s TOP-10 institutions in the THE Impact Rankings for Gender Equality — a recognition aligned with its ongoing initiatives in gender justice, inclusivity, and social engagement.

The Representative Office of the Association of Central Asia affirmed its commitment to continuing collaborative efforts with higher education institutions to promote human rights, advance gender equality, and support civil society initiatives throughout Uzbekistan.
